Ms. Veganastic wines and dines in The Sugar City!

I was extremely excited when the opportunity to visit St. Kitts came around. I heard that the historical sites were fantastic, the people were friendly and the town was peaceful and quiet; just the way I like things when I am on vacation. I also had heard that this island had a great selection of cuisine, but vegan cuisine...not too many knew about the vegan options on this island, so of course Ms. Veganatic had some investigating to do. I happily packed my bags and took a twenty minute flight from St. Maarten to St. Kitts, and started my mission to find vegan food.
My first food adventure led me to The Mill, Daily Brewed Baked Crafted. Here I enjoyed a wonderful breakfast which included a vegan sandwich filled with lettuce, tomatoes cucumbers and onions with a black coffee. I loved the simple but flavorful sandwich.

That evening I found myself at Shanghai Express at Buckley's Food Court. Where I shared something called momos, Thai green curry, white rice and Hakka noodles with some family friends. The food was delicious and I could not believe that something so delicious and vegan friendly could be found in the most laid back of places.

When breakfast came around the next morning, my belly was in search of something more. My friends took me to a joint known as Sweet & Savoury. Here they made vegan Johnnycakes and I had my Johnnycake with vegan cheese. It had been ages since I had a Johnnycake as the original recipe has margarine, so I was so glad and mind blown that I was able to finally have a vegan one on this island.

Interestingly enough, I found myself at a Toastmasters gathering with one of my childhood friends. When lunch came around, and the organizers announced that lunch was ready, I got up from my seat and thought in my head, "Here we go again another time where the vegan only gets a salad!" However, when I got to the area where they had laid out the food, my eyes widened like they had never seen food before. There were a lot of meat options but there were also a number of vegetarian and vegan options. Trust me when I say this, I have been to many meetings before where I was stuck with the sad salad while everyone got their hearty meals, but St. Kitts, was on a whole different level when it came to serving food. They had rice, something called provisions, plantain and salad for vegetarians and vegans. I was never happier to be at a meeting that included lunch in my life.

For lunch the following day, my friend took me to the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, where I enjoyed a wonderful bean burger served with a tangy hot sauce and fries on the side. The burger had a lot of flavour and at times I forgot that I was eating a bean burger, because of the medley of spices that tingled my taste buds.

My last meal on this island was a wrap from Ital Creation. It was filled with fresh salad and quinoa patties. What I loved about this place was that almost everything found in their dishes were grown in their backyard. I could literally taste the freshness in each bite. "Let your food be your medicine," was a sign that I saw in this restaurant and honestly every bite felt like I was getting an instantaneous boost of vitamins and minerals.

St. Kitts also known as The Sugar City, was truly a vegan's delight. I was able to find options at literally every corner. This island surprised me in more ways that one. So, if you are a vegan foodie like me, make sure to put St. Kitts on your bucket list. Till my next food adventure, keep it simple, keep it veganastic! CHEERS!
